Milton Disability Awareness Committee
Meeting Minutes
June 10, 2015
Committee Members In Attendance: Hope Winograd, Tass Welch, Ken Woods, Nancilee Wolfe,
Van Black and Paul Schiell
MDAC Liaison: Sudie Gordon
Guests in Attendance: Jan Williamson and Diane Stewart
Tass Welch called the meeting to order and Paul Schiell seconded the motion. The motion passed
unanimously. (6-0)
Committee members reviewed and approved the meeting minutes from April 8, 2015 . Nancilee
Wolfe made the motion to approve the minutes and Van Black seconded the motion. The motion
passed unanimously. (6-0)
New Business:
* Tass took the floor first to discuss Dialogue in the Dark.
* Community Church of Christ would let the fellowship hall be used for Dialogue in the Dark.
* Hope discussed the Dialogue in the Dark that took place in Atlantic Station a few years ago.
*That event gave people the experience of what it was like to live as a person with visual
impairments.
* Sudie said that participants were given a cane to feel the environment around them.
*Tass said it would be a stand-alone event where members of the community to come by and
check out Dialogue in the Dark.
* October is blindness awareness month .
*The committee thought that might be a good time of year to hold the event.
* Hope and Ken suggested possibly tying the event in with a Halloween event.
* The July 4th parade was the next topic discussed .
* Nancilee said the walk was about a half a mile and forms a circle around the area.
*About 300-400 people participated in the 2014 parade.
* The area is very flat and should be very accommodating to wheelchairs, walkers and other
mobility devices .
Old Business:
• The 2015 Community Pet Day went very well and pulled in lots of people.
• The 2016 event might take place the first Sunday of May.
• Paul took the floor next to discuss an Atlanta parade that will commemorate the 25th
anniversary of the passing of 1990 ADA laws.

• The Titans are working on something called the Champions Place Initiative.
• This would provide housing for adults with special needs.
• MDAC members discussed the whole topic of housing for young adults with special needs
who want to live alone and be independent.
Van Black moved to adjourn the meeting and Paul Schiell seconded the motion. The vote was
unanimous to adjourn. The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, September 16, 2015 .
