Milton Disability Awareness Committee
Meeting Minutes
September 16, 2015
Comm ittee Members In Attendance: Hope Winograd, Tass Welch, Ken Woods, Nancilee Wolfe,
Van Black and Paul Schiel!

Gu e sts in Attendance: James Keating, Teresa Stickels
Tass Welch called the meeting to order and Paul Schiel! seconded the motion. The motion passed
unanimously. (6-0)
Committee members reviewed and approved the meeting minutes from August 12, 2015 . Hope
Winograd made the motion to approve the minutes and Van Black seconded the motion. The motion
passed unanimously. (6-0)
New Bus i ness:
• Ken took the floor first to discuss meeting an attorney named Bill Goren .
• Bill is an ADA attorney who has offered to speak to MDAC and provide information on laws
and other issues pertaining to ADA.
• MDAC members agree that learning more ADA related information could be beneficial to the
committee.
• Better Together appears interested in teaming up with MDAC to learn more ADA
information from Mr . Goren.
• Teresa is the sustainability coordinator for the City of Milton.
• She discussed how the city wants to have a low-key cookout at Birmingham Park.
• Milton Grows Green appears interested in participating in the cookout event with the city.
• Teresa is interested in having MDAC participate in a potential event as well.
• The idea is to get members of the community out to the park and promote the beauty of it
• Birmingham Park is the largest park in Fulton County.
• Im 'provements are being made to the park to improve its image and usage.
• There are questions about whether or not Birmingham ·Park has enough accessibility to host
events like the Earth Day Festival.
• MDAC members feel that the park just is not accessible enough to hold major city events.
• Hope moved that MDAC not partner with Milton Grows Green in holding an open house
cookout event at the park. Van seconded the motion. Ken Woods abstained from th e vote.
The Motion passed 5 -0.
• Hope discussed the accessibility of the new libraries in Milton and Alpharetta.
• The library in Alpharetta appears to be more accessible than the Milton library.
• Committee members viewed photos of both libraries to compare the accessibility of both
locations.

Old Business:
• Nancilee and Tass are going to do a blurb for MDAC to go on the City of Milton Facebook
page.
• This could be something that MDAC members could do on a monthly basis.
• The Face book posts would also go out on Twitter as well as the accounts are linked together.
Van Black moved to adjourn the meeting and Nancilee Wolfe seconded the motion. The vote was
unanimous to adjourn. The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, October 14, 2015.
