HomeMy WebLinkAboutMDAC December 14, 2016 MinutesHOME OF 'THE BEST QUALITY OF LIFE M It MILTONESTABLISHED2006 Milton Disability Awareness Committee Meeting Minutes December 14, 2016 Committee M b rc In Attendance: Hope Winograd, James Keating, Dudley Arnold, Tass Welch, Paul Schiell and Van Black MDAC Liaison, Sudie Gordon Guests in Attendance; Octavia Sargeant, Jim Cregge and Lauren Holmes Tass Welch called the meeting to order. The motion passed unanimously. (6-0) Committee members reviewed and approved the meeting minutes from November 9, 2016. Van Black made the motion to approve the minutes and Paul Schiell seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously (6-0) New Business: • Jim Cregge took the Floor first and introduced Lauren Holmes, Co -Founder of Children's Charities GA. • The 501 C 3 group operates solely off of volunteers and has no paid employees. • Lauren discussed a big project the group is working on. • Children's Charities is attempting to raise approximately $500,000 to build a new park in Milton. This park will include state of the art equipment and offer many activities for children with disabilities (a true all-inclusive park). • A location of the park has not been determined at this time. • The park is planning to be in the neighborhood of 16,000 sq. feet. • There are a couple of potential sites at this point. • Up to citizens and city council to definitively decide where the park is going to be located. • Jim hopes to have solar powered emergency phones in City of Milton parks starting in 2018. Old Business: • Members of MDAC picked back up on potential Facebook topics for the next several months. • Dudley will do a Canine Assistants related post for Milton FB page every third month in 2017. Pagel of 2 • Tass got in touch with AXSMAP on the issues people were having in using the website and actually got a response from Jason. • Many of the kinks in the AXSMAP have now been resolved and the site should now work well. • North Fulton Wheels wants to continue getting lots of ratings for AXSMAP. The committee is striving for 150 total reviews by early 2017. • MDAC members voted to nominate Octavia Sargeant to fill the vacant position on the committee. Hope Winograd made a motion to approve and Dudley Arnold seconded the motion. The motion was passed unanimously (6-0). • Octavia will be officially sworn in at one of the next Milton City Council meetings. Hope Winograd moved to adjourn the meeting and Van Black seconded the motion. The vote was unanimous to adjourn. The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at 7:00 pm.
