HomeMy WebLinkAboutMilton Disability Awareness Committee Mins 01 11 17MIITCYN ~ ESTABLISHED 2006 Milton Disability Awareness Committee Meeting Minutes January 11, 2017 Committee Members In Attendance: James Keating, Dudley~Arnold, Hope Winograd, Octavia Sargeant, Tass Welch and Paul Schiell ~, MDAC Liaison: Sudie Gordon Guests in Attendance: N /A Tass Welch called the meeting to order. The motion passed unanimously. (6-0) Committee members reviewed and approved the meeting minutes from December 14, 2016. Paul Schiell made the motion to approve the minutes and Hope Winograd seconded the motion . The motion passed unanimously. (6-0) New Business: • MDAC members kicked off by discussions different webpage resources that could be beneficial for the gener al public on disability awareness. • The committee just has to be certain that the resources suggested by MDAC don't take any type of political stance. • MDAC members will continue to look into great resou~ces to pass along to members of the Milton public. Old Business: * Van plans to write the 911 "No Help" post as one of the next Facebook story posts for MDAC. * Dudley will be submitting a Canine Assistants related story for the MDAC FB page for February. * A Canine Assistants related story will be submitted about every third month for MDAC Facebook posts. • North Fulton Wheels plans to meet on Sunday, February 12th at 1:30 for a run through on AXS MAP presenta tions (Mapathon Meeting). This will help show how people from the general public can sign up and begins rating business on AXS Ma p. • The Milton City Earth Day Event will take place on Saturday, April 22, 2017 • Dudley will get volunteers from Canine Assistants to bring service dogs to attend the MDAC Earth Day booth. • Hopefully the Titans will be able to come and perform some demons trations at the MDAC booth. Page 1of2 • Hope suggested Octavia contact Bert's Big Adventure radio show for more information, resources and story MDAC could write on Facebook about the activities BBA does for Kids with special needs and beyond. • Stories about inclusiveness and mainstreaming of people with disabiliti e s are very import to put out there for the general public. • BBA would be a great resource for MDAC members to find out more info on activities in the area that are offered for children with disabilities. • North Fulton Wheel will also have a booth set up near MDAC's booth at the Earth Day event. Hope Wino grad moved to adjourn the meeting and James Keating seconded the mo t ion . The vote was unanimous to adjourn. The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at 7:00 pm.
