HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTION NO 07-05-43RESOLUTION NO. 07-05-43 STATE OF GEORGIA COUNTY OF FULTON A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING LEGISLATION IN THE 2007 SESSION OF THE GEORGIA GENERAL ASSEMBLY AND DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO FORMALLY NOTIFY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA OF THE CITY OF MILTON'S OFFICIAL AND FORMAL SUPPORT FOR SUCH. LEGISLATION; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Council are the governing authority of the City of Milton; and WHEREAS, the City is committed to providing services to its constituents and maintaining the quality of life in our City; and WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Council are charged with the protection of the health, safety, welfare and best interests of the citizens of Milton; and WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Council believe that participation in an annual legislative program provides support to the state delegation on items of municipal interest, in a mutually constructive manner, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THIS COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MILTON, GEORGIA, AND IT IS RESOLVED BY THE AUTHORITY OF SAID CITY COUNCIL. By passage of this resolution, the City of Milton Mayor and City Council hereby show formal support for the following legislative items: 1. HB 809 — The City of Milton Public Buildings and Facilities Act authorizes the Milton City Council to appoint a Buildings and Facilities Authority. This authority would be able to arrange for and approve long-term funding to pay for needed city facilities as determined by the city council. 2. HB 810 — The bill re-establishes the city of Milton corporate boundaries. It formalizes Milton's western boundaries with Roswell as agreed upon by Milton and Roswell. 3. HB 811 -- The bill makes various refinements to the city of Milton charter (HB 1470 of the 2006 Session). 4. HB 813 — The City of Milton Parks and Recreation Authority Act authorized the Milton City Council to appoint a Parks and Recreation Authority, This authority would be able to arrange for and approve long-term funding to pay for needed parks and recreation improvements as determined by the city council. Page 1 of 2 The Mayor and City Council further request that the City Manager expeditiously transmit this Resolution, after adoption and once signatures are obtained, to the Honorable Governor of the State of Georgia. This resolution signifies the City's respectful request for the Governor's endorsement by signing into law the aforementioned Bills. This resolution shall be effective immediately upon its adoption.
