HomeMy WebLinkAboutPRO Archive - 09/20/2007 - Zahner Bailey Milton Rivers Alive Cleanup MonthC WHEREAS, The City of Milton, Georgia is a newly incorporated City in Fulton County, Georgiawith Rivers and tributaries running throughout the fifty square mile area that is the incorporated City of Milton. WHlEREAS, The City of Milton, Georgia -which is part of the Coosa River basin (including Little River, Chicken Creek,Cooper Sandy Creek, Hen Run Creek and other smaller tributaries that run into the Little River and eventually into Lake Allatoona) -has a need and responsibilityto our citizens and future generations to keep our wateways clean, WHERFAS, Rivers Alive is Georgia's annual volunteer waterway cleanup event targeting waterways in tfie State including streams, rivers, lakes, beaches, and wetIands. The Rivers Alive mission is to create awareness and involvement in the preservation of Georgia's water resources. This annual October event is sponsored by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources'. WHEREAS, On October 27,2007, 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 CounciI Memkr Julie Zahner Bailey of Bailey Farm and Gardens, Inc. will organize and host again the Annual Rivers Alive Cbanup in the City of Milton Riverways. WHEREAS, This years annual cleanup will include Little River, Chicken Creek and other waterways in Milton. Little River, as an example, is a threatened waterway in the Coosa River Basin and home to federally endangered Cherokee Darter. WHEREAS, This annual hands-on environmental education opportunity will teach young adults and older citizens alike about the importance of taking care of local wetlands and waterways. WHEREAS This annual event reaches out to the entire community and includes local schools, scouts and other groups throughout Milton. WHEREAS, Councilmember Julie Zahner Bailey has dedicated much of her adutt life to the preservation of our natural 'resources and communities including the most precious waternays throughout North Georgia MOW,THEREFORE, We, the Mayor and City Council of the City of Milton, hereby dedicate the month of October officially as "ZahPrer Bailey MiIton Rivers Alive Cleanup Month " for the City of Milton Waterways.
