WHEREAS, WHEREAS, i WHEREAS, JULY IS PARKS AND RECREATION MONTH parks and recreation facilities and programs are an integral part of communities throughout this country, including the City of Milton, Georgia; and parks and recreation are vitally important to establishing and maintaining the quality of life in our communities, ensuring the health of all citizens, and contributing to the economic and environmental well- being of a community and region; and parks and recreation programs build healthy, active communities that aid in the prevention of chronic disease, provide therapeutic recreation for those who are mentally or physically disabled, and also improve the mental and emotional health of all citizens; and WHEREAS, parks and recreation programs increase a community's economic prosperity by creating desirable places to live, work, play and visit, thereby contributing to increased property values, increased tourism, attraction and retention of businesses, and crime reduction; and WHEREAS, parks and natural recreation areas improve water quality, protect groundwater, prevent flooding, improve the quality of the air we breathe, provide vegetative buffers to development, produce habitat for wildlife and provide a place for children and adults to connect with nature; and WHEREAS, parks and recreation activities and special events provide opportunities for citizens to come together and experience a sense of community and fellowship; and WHEREAS, the City of Milton strives to enhance and preserve the quality of life for Milton residents by providing recreational programs and services, both passive and active in nature, with respect for our City's rural heritage and its natural beauty; and WHEREAS, the City of Milton recognizes all of the benefits derived from parks and recreation resources, NOW, THEREFORE, We, the Mayor and City Council hereby proclaim July 2011 as "Parks and Recreation Month" in the City of Milton and encourage all citizens to join us in celebrating and supporting our ongoing parks and recreation initiatives.
