WHEREAS, The Americans we know as American Indians and Native
Americans were the first explorers and settlers of the areas
that now make up the United States; and
WHEREAS, Mountains and rivers, lakes and valleys, states and counties,
trails and towns across this land have Indian names; they
are lasting reminders of the presence and the significance
of American Indians not just in our geography but
throughout the whole of American history; and
WHEREAS, Many of the foods we eat and the medicines and remedies
we use were introduced by Indians, and more than one
highway follows an Indian trail; and
WHEREAS, Indians make contributions in every area of endeavor and
American life, and our literature and all our arts draw upon
Indian themes and wisdom; and
WHEREAS, Countless American Indians have served in our Armed
Forces and have fought valiantly for our country; and
WHEREAS, During the Thanksgiving season, generations of Americans
are reminded of the early friendship of the Pilgrims and
American Indians.
Now, therefore, we, the Mayor and City Council of the City of Milton,
hereby dictate and proclaim November as "Native American History
Month" in the City of Milton, Georgia.
Given under our hand and seal of the City of Milton, Georgia on this 6th day
