Recognizing September as Pulmonary Fibrosis Awareness Month WHEREAS, WHEREAS, WHEREAS, WHEREAS, pulmonary fibrosis is a lung disorder characterized by a progressive scarring known as fibrosis -and deterioration of the lungs, which slowly robs its victims of their ability to breathe, and; pulmonary fibrosis affects at least 128,000 Americans, with an estimated 48,000 new cases diagnosed each year, and has no FDA-approved treatment and no cure, and; pulmonary fibrosis is difficult to diagnose, and an estimated two-thirds of patients die within five years of diagnosis, meaning as many people lose their lives each year to it as to breast cancer -40,000, and; in the month of September the Coalition for Pulmonary Fibrosis, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 2001 to accelerate research efforts leading to a cure for pUlmonary fibrosis while educating, supporting, and advocating for the community of patients, families, and medical professionals fighting this disease, seeks to achieve greater national awareness and fundraising in the race to find treatment and a cure for pulmonary fibrosis; NOW, THEREFORE, we, the Mayor and City Council of the City ofMilton, hereby dedicate the month of September, 2012 as PULMONARY FIBROSIS AWARENESS MONTH in the City ofMilton, Georgia.
