ACTION REPORT
DESIGN REVIEW BOARD
FEBRUARY 1, 2011
1) Call to order and Pledge
2) Introduction of Board Members
Members present: Jim Brown, Kathi Cook, Terry Herr, Mark Mekes, Bruce
Smitherman
3) Approval of January action minutes
Motion to approve: Kathi Cook
2nd: Mark Mekes
Vote: 4-0, 1 abstained, Motion approved
4) Building plan review: Bethany Gas Station, Bethany Road & Highway 9, Mehdi Khah
Motion to approve with conditions: Kathi Cook
Conditions:
(a) Approval for building only. Applicant to return with drawings/bids for
canopy,
(b) No stripes on metal fascia around building or canopy,
(c) Signage on building/canopy shall be per Ordinance,
(d) Double the width of the dormers,
(e) Attach the dumpster enclosure to the main building,
(f) The dumpster enclosure gates shall be, at least, as tall as the dumpster,
(g) Submit canopy options (details and bids) to Staff, to be forwarded to
Board,
(h) Lighting to be per Highway 9 Overlay requirements,
(i) Find another alternative for plantation shutters over sidewalks,
(j) Find another alternative for roof ladder, which will allow a continuous roof

5) Building plan review: Milton Montessori School, 13100 Morris Road, Stewart Carlisle
Motion to approve with conditions: Kathi Cook
Conditions:
(a) Changes to exterior materials as submitted--_____ brick, Sandstone
CMU,
(b) Continue CMU wainscoting up to windowsill,
(c) Top CMU with a brick rowlock course; modify to align with windowsill,
(d) Brick and CMU mortar to match CMU color,
(e) CMU shall be laid with stacked bond pattern.

6) Building plan review: Office/Storage trailer, NTB Tires, 12992 Windward Village Pkwy

7) Courtesy review: V11-001, 735 Brickwood Lane, Mark Kubik
Request to allow an attached garage to encroach into the side yard setback
Comments:
(a) All homes seem to have side loaded garages,
(b) Applicant will have to prove hardship to BZA,
(c) If HOA has no objections, Board has no objections.
8) Courtesy review: Bethwell Community Center Renovation, 2695 Hopewell Road,
Cyndee Bonacci
Comments:
(a) Adding 2 gables over the front will add interest, and make the building
look more residential; The long, receding shallow roof is probably not
going to give you the look you want,
(b) May have to raise awning over side entrance, new door looks to be
too tall since it now swings out,
(c) Board approves of Antique White for building and tan color (Down
Home),
(d) Check to see if choose colors are compliant with Overlay,
(e) Porch edge should extend to edge of roof,
(f) Match playground equipment to building colors (browns and greens
ok)

Election of 2011 officers—deferred until March meeting
